Sensory breaks that fit in your hallway

5 min read

Sensory breaks don’t need a therapy gym. A hallway can become a reset lane: animal walks (bear, crab, frog jumps), wall pushes, or a timed “heavy work” carry (a backpack with a book inside).

Aim for intensity that matches the need — big movement for high energy, slow pushing for seeking proprioception, or rhythmic bouncing for regulation. Keep it short (2–5 minutes) and repeatable so kids learn the cue.

Pair breaks with visuals or a simple checklist so the routine is clear. If sensory needs are frequent or disruptive, an evaluation through your care team can align home strategies with school supports.
